e-Portfolio Class Discussion
DISCUSSION:
I have determined to make my ePortfolio private. I've chosen private for a variety of reasons but primarily because I am new to social media and have no experience with creating an ePortfolio. I would like to feel more comfortable with this tool prior to going public. I understand no personal information is contained in the ePortfolio, however, I would like to maintain a certain level of anonymity.
Because this will be my first experience creating an ePortfolio I looked at all three example.
Based on my review of the three ePortfolio tools, I am leaning toward WiX. I liked the way the pages flowed and the ease of access. I may still change my mind, but at this juncture WiX is at the top of my list.
- Determine if you would like your ePortfolio to be public or private and explain why.
- Choose two or more of the following ePortfolios to look at:Canvas, WiX and Weebly
- Compare your two choices for the following: Do you like the final products/examples? If yes, what do you like about them? If no, what are you looking for in a web design site?
- Based on your assessment, describe what tool you are most interested in for building your ePortfolio and why.

- Canvas: This tool seemed very basic and similar to a blog. Although I believe it would be easier for me to use since I am more familiar with Canvas, I was looking for a more creative and artistic background.
- WiX: It may have been the examples, but I felt the user could be imaginative and artistic.
- Weebly: This tool was more comparable to WiX. I enjoyed the example.

REFLECTION:
A week makes a big difference because I have gone in a totally different direction than I had planned. I was terrified of this project and had no idea what I was getting myself into. I perused each site multiple time and went through the support modules to get an idea of how to use each one. Some of the examples were so creative, I felt immediately overwhelmed. I knew I needed to get moving and I had to make decisions on the site I would choose. Finally, I sat down and just signed into Weebly and started at ground zero. I wanted the e-Portfolio to be simple and about the work I accomplish in this class. My initial graphics were very professional and a little on the boring side.I slowly grew comfortable with the site and within days I changed my lay-out to a more feminine, cheery and playful theme. I have not only learned what goes into creating a website but I realize that it is a work-in-progress. It doesn't have to be stagnant but it is a project I will continue to make changes, revisions and additions as I learn more in the class and about what I like and dislike. It is less scary now that I know how to manipulate the pages better. I am still going through the learning videos and the support has saved me many times. The very incredible part is that once I started, it was addicting. I couldn't wait to work on it again to get more information into my e-Portfolio. I am very much a private person but taking on-line classes really brings you out of your comfort zone.
