Health Ed. 044: Overall Reflection
Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from this class but I want to say that it was beyond anything I could ask from a class. It was informative, educational and I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions with my classmates. I hope anyone seeing this website would consider taking this class or a similar one. It was so much more than just about exercise and diet. It was about living a healthy lifestyle and creating a strategy to achieve this.

You are responsible for your behavior, you can choose to live for optimal health.
Initially, we learned that health is the state of well-being in which all of the components of health are in balance. We discussed that wellness is broken down into six components. Further, to be truly healthy, it is important to take care of each component.
The components consist of:
- Physical Health is the functions of one’s body. This includes eating a nutritious and healthful diet, exercising regularly, and controlling your body weight. With this we learned the importance of avoiding drugs and alcohol and reducing the risk of disease and sickness.
- Social Health is the quality of your relationships with friends, family, teachers, and others you are in contact with. During these discussions we discussed different types of abuse and how to protect ourselves from falling into unhealthy, abusive relationships.
- Environmental Health is keeping your air and water clean, your food safe, and the land around you enjoyable and safe. During this week we discussed how we can make a difference in our environment and were encouraged to change behaviors that would help our environment.
- Emotional Health is expressing your emotions in a positive, nondestructive way. We discussed stress, anxiety and how to best manage it.
- Spiritual Health is the harmonious relationships between living things, spiritual direction and purpose. We further discussed living according to one’s ethics, morals, and values.
- Intellectual/Mental Health is recognizing reality and coping with the demands of daily life. This also included self-efficacy or self-esteem.
You are responsible for your behavior, you can choose to live for optimal health.
